Dr. Thomas Leiber
“Just to clear up any curiosity, my nickname “Dr.T” isn’t a reflection of any narcissistic tendencies! It’s actually the result of a running joke with my family. Living with two wonderful women and a cat, we once watched the movie Dr.T & the Women... and, well, you can imagine how that went! So feel free to call me Dr.T if you like, or simply Thomas - whichever you prefer!”

THE WIN – WIN - WIN
I recently wrote an article on how to build a successful business venture, where I coined my slogan: Resilience, Collaboration, Trust. You can read the full blog post here, but let me briefly explain what these values mean to me.
RESILIENCE
I’ve personally faced difficult moments in life. As an entrepreneur, you experience highs, but you can also fall very low.
I also went through a severe bike accident, which shifted my perspective on many things. One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that resilience is the cornerstone of success. It's the ability to get back up, no matter how hard you fall, that truly defines your journey.
COLLABORATION
As an innovator, I’ve learned that you can't bring an idea to life on your own. You need a strong team and collaborations with larger players who can provide the necessary resources. But it’s a two-way street: the big players need innovators like me (and many others) just as much, because only by working together can we maintain the agility and creativity needed to succeed in a competitive world.
TRUST
I believe that you gain more by trusting people than you lose by trying to control everything. Over the years, I’ve worked with people who didn’t always keep their word, yet I choose to trust. It’s essential to me that others know they can trust me, too. In the end, trust is the foundation of any lasting relationship—personal or professional.
Inspired by my lead negotiator, Kirk Kinnel, this belief has shaped my approach to business. I strive for a WIN-WIN-WIN mindset—one that fosters long-term relationships and collaborations where all parties involved benefit. It's about creating solutions where everyone walks away feeling valued, ensuring that success is shared and sustainable for the future.
Early years and education.
Growing up with the inventor of the ABS system as my dad, I was practically raised in a lab coat, surrounded by gadgets and ideas. My true fascination has always been with flying, three-dimensional puzzles, and non-linear systems. This curiosity eventually led me to study aerospace engineering and pursue a postdoctoral fellowship at MIT, where I could dive into complex challenges that were as abstract as they were exciting. Later, I earned my doctorate in electrical engineering.
Invisible forces have always intrigued me, especially the work of Nikola Tesla. His groundbreaking ideas inspired my interest in brushless electric motors and electrohydraulic brake systems. I loved the challenge of making sense of these complex systems and distilling them down to simple, innovative solutions that anyone could understand.
My teenage years were a bit of a global adventure. I spent time in Clear Lake, California, going to high school, and later worked while studying French in Paris. Along the way, I married someone from Argentina—proof that I have an appreciation for both great wine and even greater cultural diversity!
After finishing my studies, I joined McKinsey & Company as a consultant, where I learned how to take the most complex problems and turn them into clear, compelling stories with very few illustrations. It’s a skill that’s stuck with me and has shaped a lot of my approach to innovation.
During my years at McKinsey & Company, I was deeply inspired by Professor Herb Henzler, whose influence profoundly shaped my value system. I also consider my time as a consultant to be an invaluable part of my education, as I practically earned an M.B.A. in practice.
patents
With nearly 500 patents to my name, my expertise lies in unlocking the full potential of cutting-edge braking technologies, bringing them to market through my own ventures and strategic licensing collaborations.
I firmly believe that innovation thrives in an environment of resilience, collaboration, and trust. It doesn’t happen in isolation - it flourishes when ideas and people come together to support and challenge one another. As a mentor, I work with ambitious start-ups, guiding them to realize bold visions, and as an investor, I help them scale faster, creating real-world impact.
Ultimately, I believe that with the right resources and guidance, innovation can transform industries and build a better, more sustainable future for all.
VENTURES
Over the years, I've started a few ventures (you can check them out on LinkedIn if you’re curious). But the ones I’m especially proud of are the companies I founded in Switzerland and Germany. While I’ve officially stepped back from the daily grind of running them, I still stay involved by supporting them with my extensive network and some strategic business development magic. It’s like being a proud parent—you’re not doing the homework anymore, but you’re always there cheering from the sidelines!

The Thomas Leiber Brand
I’m very excited to share my new branding—it’s something I’m really proud of!
Working with the experienced designer Jay van Schaik, we’ve created something that not only reflects my personality but also the wide range of projects I’m involved in and the many roles I juggle both in my business and personal life. Jay absolutely nailed it, and I’ll let him take it from here to explain how he brought my brand identity to life
The Logo
"I wanted to capture Thomas exactly as he is—someone full of energy, who lives and breathes innovation, and gets excited about the latest technology, yet still connects on a human level. The logo reflects Thomas’ greatest inspiration throughout his life and career, Nikola Tesla—the person who envisioned the electric car and the mobile phone when horses were still pulling carriages.
The sharp edges and diagonal lockup represent innovation and the path forward. On top of that, I wanted to add a personal touch, almost like a signature—something Thomas would proudly incorporate into his communication. It makes him an authority in his field, yet always approachable—just as he is." - Jay
Swatch System
"Thomas has an impressive academic and professional career, and his bold personality is full of positivity.
He’s outspoken and never afraid to share his opinions, but always with respect and honesty. He works incredibly hard but also values quality time with his friends and family. I wanted to capture this balance by choosing colors that breathe technology and innovation but with a bold, festive twist.
Thomas’s deep connection to the sea and the sun inspired me to complement this with colors that bring a playful, lighthearted contrast to his hard work."
- Jay
Typography
"To reflect all the different roles Thomas has in his companies, as well as personally, we literally show this through typographic lockups.
This also helps communicate his core values: Resilience, Collaboration, and Trust."
- Jay
“I hope you enjoy the Branding just as much as I had creating it !” - Jay
